The satirical sitcom kicks things off with Liz Lemon being called upstairs to meet the new network exec, Jack Donaghy. The new exec instructs her to hire movie star Tracy Jordan to draw a young male audience to 'The Girlie Show'.
The crew of "The Girlie Show" is sceptical of having Tracy Jordan join the cast, especially when the show is retitled 'TGS with Tracy Jordan'. Feeling everybody blames them, Liz and Tracy throw a party on a yacht.
Jack convinces Liz to go on a date with his friend Thomas, leaving Liz a little confused. Jack invites himself to writers' poker night and takes the usual friendly game to high stakes. Jack can read all but Kenneth.
Jack starts sitting in on the writer sessions. They get annoyed by his weird, not-so-funny ideas and want him to stop. Tracy sends Kenneth for nachos at Yankee Stadium and other "missions".
Liz wants Jack to be in a sketch, which turns out horribly. Tracy sees an opportunity when Liz thinks he can't read. Frank and Toofer make Jenna think Jack is going to fire an actor. She plans to use her secret weapon.
Liz is back with her ex-boyfriend, a man she realizes is the rat king. Jack warns her about him, but she is defiant. Jenna lies about her age to Jack, starts feeling old, and does something to look younger. Tracy fears being normal.
Jack has Jenna bumped from the Conan show for Tracy, making her think he doesn't respect her. Liz deals with wanting to break up with Dennis and the fact that she wants to.
Jenna takes Liz out on the town after she breaks up with Dennis. Jack is having problems with his new relationship, and Tracy and Toofer clash over negative African American stereotypes.
Jack and Liz go to Florida, where they find out a shocking secret about Jack's late mother. Hazel sues the network for sexual harassment.
Jack launches a plot to take over as Kabletown C.E.O. Liz gets more bad news from the adoption agency. Tracy meets his match when he attempts to direct Octavia Spencer in his new Harriet Tubman movie, and she proves to be very difficult.
Jenna sends Liz to ask the Head on a date, but Liz ends up with the Hair, a guy she feels is out of her league. Jack has Kenneth switch jobs with him for a day. Tracy gets help writing his memoirs.
Jack asks Liz to accompany him to a societal event, the birthday party of a royal. When Jack's ex-wife arrives, he introduces Liz as a girlfriend. To help Pete reclaim his manhood, Tracy holds a party in the office, inviting girl dancers.
Liz makes staff work all night on Valentine's Day. She gets flowers, but from whom? Jack and Bianca meet to finalize their divorce. He celebrates with Tracy, who is role-playing with his wife in a hotel room.
Liz decides to be a nicer boss when she overhears one of the writers calling her an offensive name.
Kenneth is added to Tracy's entourage but doesn't realize he is used to Grizz and Dot Com giving preferential treatment. Jenna is named the funniest woman but says she hates the troops. Jack plays hardball in Josh's negotiation.
Liz dates an African American man, Steven, but is uninterested. Jack tries to mend a feud between Tracy and rap producer Ridikolus by having the former host the Source Awards and the latter endorse Jack's wine.
Eddie, Jack's brother, has some bad news. Jack hasn't seen his dad in 17 years. Liz is required to fire 10% of her staff which stresses her but in aerobics, Liz sees her crush Floyd and his girlfriend.
Jack uses Kenneth to scout a young gay competitor. Liz poses as an alcoholic to impress a guy she has a crush on, and Dr Spaceman tells Tracy that he is a descendant of someone pretty famous.
Because of the fireworks disaster, Don Geiss takes Jack off microwave programming. When he meets Liz's boyfriend, Floyd, they hit it off. Tracy pitches a film to Don Geiss about Thomas Jefferson in which he plays the central role.
Liz considers moving to Cleveland with her new boyfriend. Tracy thinks the "Black Crusaders" are after him for playing negative black stereotypes, and Jack has sexual problems with his new fiancée.
Tracy goes AWOL before the final show to avoid the "Black Crusaders". Meanwhile, the pressure of his imminent wedding and a visit by his mother lands Jack in the hospital.
- Tina Fey presents a multi-Emmy winning workplace comedy set behind-the-scenes of a live variety show. The head writer of TGS (Fey) finds herself defending her live TV show when brash network executive (Alec Baldwin) starts meddling.
