A pair of childhood friends must cope with their emerging sexuality. Film buff Dawson finds his best friend, Joey, growing jealous of his attraction to a neighbour's granddaughter. Meanwhile, Pacey falls in love with a mystery woman.
Dawson worries about his first kiss with Jen, especially when she attends a school dance with someone else. Meanwhile, Joey confronts Mrs. Leery about her liaisons. Pacey tries to keep his romance with Tamara alive.
While working on the film class's movies, team player Dawson struggles to be left in the background. Meanwhile, as he plots to give Jen the "perfect kiss," a handsome stranger sweeps away Joey. Pacey tries to graduate to manhood.
After videotaping Tamara's sexual encounter with an unknown partner and then learning of his mother's infidelity, Dawson discovers the truth about Jen's past. Pacey and Tamara continue to tempt fate with their fling.
All take refuge in the Leery home when a major hurricane moves inland. That leaves a tormented Dawson to deal with their fallout. Meanwhile, Pacey ruins his brother's chances to get with Tamara at her beach house.
Capeside is abuzz with rumours of a teacher's indiscretion, which prove fateful for Pacey and Tamera. Meanwhile, Joey and Jen get a life lesson when Bessie is aided by an unlikely source when she gives birth in Dawson's living room.
In what is said to be one of the best episodes, the gang gets stuck together for an 8-hour Saturday detention after committing various violations at school. Joey offers a tearful partial explanation for her anger toward Jen.
Dawson feels the heat when an old boyfriend visits Jen. Joey releases too much steam at a beach party and ends up in a sticky situation. Tensions between Mitch and Gale reach the boiling point as they attempt to rebuild their marriage.
Hoping to get over Jen, Dawson agrees to join Pacey and Billy for a boys' night out and finds what he is looking for in another woman. Meanwhile, Jen handles damage control after Joey becomes the subject of a rumour at school.
A double date finds Jen and Cliff joined by Dawson and a savvy sidekick who calls him on a plot to make Jen jealous. But it's Dawson's turn to turn green when Pacey grows close to Joey while working on a project.
In honour of Friday the 13th, Dawson plans a séance for the gang. They are all spooked by reports of a serial killer heading towards Capeside.
Jen convinces Joey to enter a beauty competition to win money for college, while Pacey decides to enter to win money for his apartment. Dawson covers the competition with his mother's assistance, and Jen regrets her breakup with Dawson.
In the season finale, Dawson and Joey confront their true feelings. Joey visits her father in prison and debates, leaving for France.
