BP Greyling was Farmer of the year in 2011. He started farming near Wakkerstroom in Mpumalanga in 1988, with a herd of 167 cattle and about 2 000 sheep. Greyling currently has a herd of around 5 800 cattle and 21 200 sheep.
The Van Loveren family farm has been in existence since 1937, and boasts a rich history in winemaking in the Robertson Valley. Van Loveren is South Africa's largest family winery.
Francis Visagie is a farmer on the farm Nanibees near Kakamas in the Boesmanland. For decades, he has farmed there with his favourite breed of sheep, the Dorper. Visagie is one of the major Dorper farmers in the country.
Piet du Toit originally started as a cattle and lucerne farmer. It changed when a friend introduced Piet to the breeding of rare game. In his pursuit of improvement, he develops super genetics, reminiscent of the bush giants of the past.
Charl Senekal of Mkuze in KwaZulu Natal is South Africa's largest sugar farmer. Senekal Boerdery consists of 26 farms and occupies 24 800 ha of land in the Pongola District.
The Sparta Group is one of the largest suppliers of beef and beef products in the country. It is a family business, headed by Estelle van Reenen. At any given moment, there are between 80 000 to 90 000 heads of cattle in the feedlot.
Among the rugged Ceder Mountains is a plateau, known as the Koue Bokkeveld. It is here where Gysbertus du Toit started farming around 110 years ago. Today the business is known as The Du Toit Group. They grow fruit and vegetables.
Dr Kobus Hendriks of the farm Bronkhorstfontein in the Heilbron District in the Free State was South Africa's National Master Dairyman of the year in 2013. Hendriks has a herd of 980 Holstein cattle.
Schoeman Boerdery has been in existence since 1919, and Kallie Schoeman has been at the helm of business for 37 years. The Schoeman family does crop farming in the Delmas District and citrus on the farm Moosrivier in Marble Hall.
Rust en Vrede was the first privately owned wine estate that specialised in the exclusive production of red wine. Rugby hero Jannie Engelbrecht handed the reigns to his son Jean, who is taking this upmarket estate to new heights.
Môreson Poultry, in Brandfort in the Free State, is the 5th largest producer of eggs in the country. They produce 750 000 eggs per day. Kobie Fourie is the owner of the estate.
Louis de Kock of WildeKlawer near Barkley West in the Northern Cape is South Africa's largest producer of onions for both local and international markets. In season, the company packs more than 2.4 million onions per day.
