In this captivating premiere episode, three years after millions of people vanished, residents of Mapleton weigh the pros and cons of a tribute to the "Departed." Meanwhile, police chief Kevin Garvey faces challenges with his daughter.

Kevin goes to see a therapist after he has some unsettling encounters while Meg parts with pieces of her past. Later, Tom and Christine are left in a dicey situation, and Jill and Aimee are interested in Nora's whereabouts.

With dwindling church attendance and threats on his life, Reverend Matt Jamison continues to preach that many who disappeared in the Departure were sinners. He must also devise a last-minute plan to save his church from foreclosure.

A holiday display goes missing, sending Kevin scurrying to find out who is responsible. Tom and Christine run into trouble at a hospital and on the road. Kevin retrieves a surprise detainee and receives unexpected visitors at home.

Laurie's resolve is tested in the wake of a brutal hate crime. After his latest initiatives to maintain the peace in Mapleton fall short, Kevin turns down an outside offer to rid the town of its problems.

Nora goes to New York for the second annual Departure Related Occupations and Practices conference and discovers unsettling circumstances.
