Erns Grundling travels through France in the sixth season of Elders. He begins by exploring Marseille, supports the Toyota Cheetahs against Toulon and chats with Bok legend Ruan Pienaar.
Erns meets Bok hero Cheslin Kolbe in Toulon, travels to the famous film city Cannes where he visits the island prison cell of The Man in the Iron Mask, and explores beautiful Nice.
Erns travels to the picturesque Chamonix in the French Alps, where he walks in the snow with a South African friend, visits cheese makers on a farm and takes a train to a famous glacier.
Erns travels to the scenic Annecy and walks a short leg of the Huguenot trail with a friendly South African couple. He travels to Le Puy-en-Velay and begins the Via Podiensis Camino.
Erns continues walking the Via Podiensis Camino route and has several wonderful interactions with pilgrims in the French countryside. He also learns about an old legend of a wolfish beast.
Erns walks to Aumont-Aubrac on the Via Podiensis Camino route. He then travels to Boussac where he visits a market. At La Creuzette he has a lovely chat with artist Louis Jansen van Vuuren.
Erns explores iconic destinations in Paris and walks with a guide through magical Montmartre. He visits the Stade Francais rugby club and spends a great day with Springbok prop Vincent Koch.
Erns travels through the cultural heartland of France and visits Chartres, Orleans and the beautiful Villandry castle. In Nantes, he plays cricket with chef and TV presenter Erik le Roux.
Erns goes for a sailing lesson in La Rochelle and meets Springbok Dillyn Leyds at his rugby club. He travels to Sarlat-la-Caneda, where he visits the much-loved author Marita van der Vyver.
Erns travels to Bordeaux, explores the city and visits the iconic wine museum. He then drives to the vineyards of this wine capital and meets a fascinating character for a tasting.
Erns travels to Lourdes, one of the world's famous pilgrim destinations. He explores the very busy sanctuary, walks the processions and discovers a rich and enduring spiritual tradition.
Erns returns to the Via Podiensis Camino route. He starts in the town of Navarrenx and enters the Basque Country. He sees an interesting sculpture and visits a small church on a hill.
Erns is joined by his wife Catharien and they walk the last day of the Via Podiensis Camino route. His French adventure ends in Saint-Jean-Pied-du-Port, a small town with special memories.
