When Jan tells Michael that the Scranton Branch will be shutting down, Michael strives to keep his staff's spirits up. Meanwhile, everyone privately begins to envision how their lives will change in the aftermath.

Jan informs Michael that the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin will be merging with the Stamford Branch. Jim and Pam are reunited while the other employees of both branches must adjust to their new co-workers.

Michael learns that one of the new employees at Dunder Mifflin Scranton has a criminal record. Meanwhile, Jim helps Andy make a move on Pam.

In a special holiday episode directed by Harold Ramis, strife on the party planning committee results in two competing Christmas parties, while Michael is dumped for the holidays.

In part two of The Office, the chaotic events from the Christmas Party continue. Drama ensues, and emotions run high at the competing at the Christmas parties.

Michael returns from his Jamaican vacation as the office prepares for a night of inventory.

Salary negotiations drive Michael to think about his pay, driving him to headquarters to ask for a pay raise himself.

After weeks of anger management training, Andy returns to the office. Meanwhile, Michael and Dwight are on a mission to illuminate workplace dangers for safety-training day at Dunder-Mifflin.

The staff enters crisis mode after a shipment of paper goes out with an obscene watermark. Meanwhile, Angela has trouble apologising to customers, and Andy discovers a secret about his new girlfriend.

Outrage breaks out in the office after Phyllis gets an unexpected eyeful from a flasher. Michael ostensibly takes the women in the office to the mall to comfort them, but he has an ulterior motive.

Michael is being considered for a position in Corporate and has to recommend his replacement. He uses "beach day" to help him find the most capable replacement.

In the season finale, the office is still buzzing from their day at the beach. A job opening in Corporate pits coworker against coworker as Michael, Jim and Karen all head to New York for final interviews.

In part two of the season finale, Michael finally goes for his interview for the corporate job and names Dwight as his successor, whose managing methods are unpopular.
